So you’re a mom now. Let’s just take a minute for a round of applause. You carried that little bundle around for nine months. You gained more weight than you wanted and stopped fitting into all your favorite clothes. The heartburn and morning sickness was almost unbearable, but all that is behind you now. Now all you have to look forward to is sleepless nights and baby cuddles. But what about those Forever 21 jeans that are hanging in the back of your closet? What are you going to do with those? Well, let me tell you a little secret.
Just because you’re a mom doesn’t mean you have to change your style.
You heard me. So what if you’re a mom. Who said that moms can’t still wear clothes that are in? With more and more of us becoming moms at a young age, we suddenly feel compelled to act and dress older. You might not be going to the club anymore, but trust me you can still rock those tight little jeans.
Now I know you don’t fit into them right now, or maybe you never were able to squeeze back into them. I now that feeling. My hips spread so wide with my first son there was no way I was ever going back to my previous size and that is fine. That didn’t mean I wasn’t going back to my favorite shop to buy more jeans.
I know Forever 21 and stores alike can be intimidating to moms. They are geared towards young girls, and apparently, you’re not allowed to be young and a mom. Well, let me tell you they are wrong. There is no reason you can’t walk back in there, baby in tow, and buy your favorite pair of Forever 21 jeans (or whatever jeans you want).
Here are four reasons to keep buying the same jeans you have always loved.
Finding the right pair of jeans can be difficult.
You already spent hours finding the right brand of jeans that fit just right. They have the right amount of stretch and hug all the right places. They are a reasonable price, and you decided a long time ago that you won’t look any further for your jeans. You had found the ones.
That was before you had the baby. I know I don’t like to go shopping for jeans period. I have a small waist and large thighs. This is not a good combination for jeans. Not to mention all stores seem to be on a different page when it comes to sizes. I hate trying on clothes everything I go shopping. If you found that one store that works for you then stick with it.
Now clearly I love Forever 21 jeans and I am going to tell you why. This is the only store that I can find the right fit in a high waisted style. Now I know high waisted isn’t for everyone, but I enjoy having that extra fabric to tuck in my mom stomach. If you haven’t tried the high waisted yet, I recommend it. I feel ten times slimmer in them.
You are not only a mom.
Read that again. You are not only a mom. That is right. You are so much more. You remember that girl you were before the baby? Well, she is still there. Don’t hide her away with clothes you know she doesn’t like. I mean who are you dressing for anyway? Yourself that is who. If you are dressing for anyone else just stop right now. That is not the way to happiness. You want to be happy right? Then do it for yourself and be proud. The baby doesn’t care what it spits up on. Trust me.
So don’t forget that girl you were before. She was stylist and always on trend. She knew what looked good and what did. That girl loved the clothes she put on every morning. Why does that have to change? Let me tell you that it does not. You are still that girl.
They are comfortable.
You want to be comfortable right? Well, I want you to be comfortable too. You are going to be tired and cranky. The least you can do is put on those comfy jeans again. Even if you don’t fit into the same jeans you had before the baby, that doesn’t mean you can’t go buy those comfy jeans in a bigger size. It is okay to go up a size (or maybe even a few in my case). At least you’ll still be comfortable.
Now I know sweatpants and baggy shirts are comfy too. And I am not going to pretend like I didn’t rock that for a long time, but you are eventually going to want to put those real clothes on again. Do yourself a favor and stick to the ones you trust. They your favorite jeans for a reason right? There is no reason that has to change now.
No one gets to tell you what you can and can’t wear.
That is right. No one gets to tell you what you can and can’t wear. Not your mother-in-law. Not your husband. And not the media. The only person who has any say so in what you wear is yourself. If you want to wear Forever 21 jeans then you go ahead. You like that tight low cut shirt? Then wear it. What about that little skirt? Girl put it on. Don’t let people tell you that a mom has to dress a certain way. You can rock whatever you want and take care of that baby at the same time. Those baggy clothes will not make you a better mom. Trust me.
So there you have it. Don’t change yourself because society says moms have to dress a certain way. You set your own standards. Show your kids that it is okay to think independently from the crowd.
Tell me about your favorite item of clothing that you still wear.
